Meet A Mom: Meet Patricia Assui Reed- Owner of Matriark | Hamptons Moms

How long have you been summering in the Hamptons?

We’ve been coming to the Hamptons for more than 10 years.

Are you year round?

After summering here for so long we decided to take the plunge and move to Sag Harbor last summer.

What’s your favorite thing about being in the Hamptons?

Besides having the space and nature, I love that I don’t have to give up little luxuries like nice restaurants, great shops and services. I feel that it is a great extension of NYC sans the stressful part.

What’s your favorite month to be out east?

I truly love being here year round. I like that in the summer we have so much to do and the weather is amazing, but I also enjoy the quietness of fall and winter when we can enjoy everything without the traffic.

Tell me a little more about what you do for a living and how that came about?

I have been working in fashion and luxury retail for over 20 years. I’ve been living to be able to learn from the best like Ralph Lauren, Tiffany & Co., Goyard, DVF, Christian Louboutin, ABC Carpet and Home and Iguatemi Brazil. I worked as buyer for many years and most recently have been an Executive Producer of Iguatemi Talks Fashion in Brazil. I have been thinking about Matriark in the last year but was enjoying being in Sag Harbor and getting used to my new life outside of NYC but when I saw that the Gingerbread House was in the market, I decided to go for it. I want to create a special space when’re people can come in, hang out, shop for beautiful things and support women’s business and causes.

Most hyped location to eat or go that you can’t believe tourists fall for?

Too many to tell 🙂

Favorite beach for families?

I love Sagg Main, and I love when they have their kite competition. My kids love it too. I also love Long Beach in Sag Harbor because the water is calm, and we can relax while the kids play. Go there at 6:30pm – bring a picnic basket, let the kids play while you enjoy some food and a beautiful sunset. A great way to spend some of their energy before bedtime.

Best restaurant for families with a few children in tow?

For a proper dinner, we like Il Capuccino because the menu is good for adults, and the restaurant is kid friendly and in the Village. We also like Wolffer Kitchen in Amagansett for lunch, Sag Pizza for dinner, and LT Burger for a quick low key lunch.

Most charming month in the Hamptons?

I love September. It’s still warm, traffic is easy and the light is beautiful.

Best place for ice cream in the Hamptons?

I should buy stock at BuddhaBerry because my kids are obsessed with it and we live there. Genius idea, I wish I thought of it myself 🙂 But Sag Pizza has an amazing soft serve too, it’s delicious. For traditional ice cream (and for everything else too) we love Sant Ambroeus.

Best date spot in the Hamptons for when you have a babysitter?

I think the Topping Rose House is very nice for a date night. I also love the Maidstone Hotel during fall and winter (their fireplace makes everything cozier and more romantic).

What else do you want people to know about the Hamptons?

There are many facets of the Hamptons and sometimes people assume everything is “too fancy”, but everyone can find something they love here, fancy or not: nature, shopping, R&R, fine dining, glamour, wellness, low key activities and places, art, theater, cinema – everything is here. You just have to look for them, and they are available year round, not just in the summer.
